“This is bone-dry cringe comedy for those who find Joel Potrykus or Aki Kaurismäki too obvious or broad. It won’t be for everyone, but to those it is for, it will be loved intensely.” - Oscar Goff, Boston Hassle

“The aesthetic of Funess’s picture is deadpan humor, not “cringe comedy.” The difference is important. The Hedonist has more in common with Whit Stillman’s Metropolitan, Hal Hartley’s Henry Fool, and even Hal Ashby’s Harold and Maude than with something like The Office.” - Ian Anthony Brownell, Film 5000

"There's a layered sense of play, melancholy and almost dangerous uncertainty throughout The Hedonist that works perfectly” - Kyle Logan, Screen Anarchy
